March 2012

Hi,
The purpose of this exploratory letter is to tell you about a fine art painting project and ask if your organization would be willing to participate. I am attempting to break another Guinness World Record and need your organization’s assistance.
The painting project is also being used as a fundraising project. If your organization participates, you should be able to raise a minimum of $93,600 in a few months. This money can be used to fund your art programs, pay operating expenses, use for scholarships, or go to your building fund. It’s up to you.

[But first I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Jim Campbell. I’m an artist and photographer. My website is www.campbellartist.com. My home address is 133 Looker Dr., Ingram, TX 78025. And my e-mail address is jim@campbellartist.com. Please send me your e-mail address and I'll gladly send you a couple flyers that describe my past world record projects.]

As you probably know, arts and cultural organizations across the country are losing their funding. These groups are being forced to reduce their operating budgets, eliminate their youth and adult educational programs, and decrease the number of community events they host. Thus, the people and communities they serve are being deprived of the many cultural activities, social events, and training they have come to expect and enjoy. Artists and art organizations are being forced to come up with new and creative ways to raise revenue for their operations.

I am attempting to conduct a national fundraising project that can help non-profit art organizations from coast-to-coast raise thousands of dollars. This joint project will require the coordinated efforts of many people and their organizations. Together we can help ourselves!

The project I’m purposing is simple. Artists and art leagues from across the country will join forces to create the world’s longest painting and raise awareness and money for their individual organizations.

Basically, your organization would be required to paint only 18 canvases. That’s all!
I’ll provide direction on what and how to paint the picture. You’ll need to ask 18 members of your organization to paint one canvas each (or 9 members to paint 2 canvases each - - or 6 members to paint 3 canvases each.)
As canvases are painted they would be shipped to me where I would assemble them - - along with canvases painted from all 50 states. Then the final artwork will be displayed and the length verified for the Guinness World Records. Once the picture has been exhibited, the individual canvases will be disassembled and returned to your organization. (Note: I’ll provide supplies like paint, canvases, shipping material & postage, etc.) The final painting will be called “Faces of U.S.”.

I don’t want to understate the complexity of this project, because it’s huge!
I’d like to repeat what a teenager, who painted on my current Guinness World Record painting, “A Little Dab of Texas,” told me: “…if everyone would do just a little towards a common goal, great things would be accomplished!” He was correct!

I’d like to repeat that this is just an exploratory letter. I’m in the process of organizing a Coalition of Art Leagues (C.O.A.L.), with at least one art organization in every state that would be willing to work on this project. I can assure you that together we will receive local, state, national and international media coverage, plus raise a lot of money for your organization.

Right now I’m just researching and planning the project. As I stated in the first paragraph, I would like to know if your organization would be willing to participate in this project. If so, I’ll be more than happy to provide you with specific details on how the project is structured, how we will raise money, and how we can raise awareness for your organization, your artists, your programs, and your community. I have developed a PowerPoint presentation I’d like to send you.

If there is an interest, simply e-mail me the following contact information:
1.	The name and address of your non-profit organization.
2.	The name, phone number and an e-mail address of your contact person.

Thanks for your consideration and quick response.
I look forward to working with you in the very near future.

Sincerely,

Jim Campbell

I am interested in participating in a show around the Springfield, MO area, but have noticed that the last post was from November last year. Is this group still active? If so, when is the next show?

Hi Dale,
A year late. I actually didn't realize these contacts were down here on the bottom of the dashboard.

If you have time the weekend of October 8 and 9 between 10-4:30, come to Art in the Park at Sequiota Park. It's free to the public and there will be many members there as well as other juried participants.

We are completely volunteer, so don't correspond as well as we should. However, our mission is to support the working artist. You can find out more by reviewing the posts on this website. Membership is $20 per year and prorated to June. To find out more, attend a meeting and meet the members. It's free too.

Thanks for contacting us,
Cathy Evans

Hi Robin,
I'm sorry I didn't answer sooner, but our August meeting was a special one to address the gallery show for members.

I just posted the September meeting notice. See the post for time and place. This will be a good one for guests if you are doing your art as a business or plan to embark on that adventure in the future.
Hope to see you there,
Cathy
