July Meeting
07.06
ATTENTION CURRENT AND POTENTIAL MEMBERS:
I know this is late notice, but there are still a few hours left. The July meeting is tonight, 7/6/10 at Braum’s, 4125 S. National Road, Springfield at 6:30 pm.
This meeting replaces the annual business meeting required by the Guild bylaws, last amended in 2003. We have been ignoring the current bylaws in many ways and it is time to re-evaluate them and develop something that we follow.
For example:
Should we exist as an organization to produce Art in the Park and delete our education and mentoring elements?
Should we keep these elements and start complying with them?
Should we require that exhibiting/juried members act as mentors to others in the group? (This means they would have to at least attend meetings.)
Should we adjust meeting dates to quarterly instead of monthly and have real, valuable programs with guest speakers?
Which night of the week should we meet?
There are a lot of questions and issues up for discussion. We will address all of these issues at this meeting. Then we will vote on them in August.
Any questions, call Cathy at her cell: 417-689-4536.
If you can’t come, please post you comments on this post.

2010 Art in the Park application
Application Due: July 1, 2010 postmark ~ Notification: Mid-August
The Southwest Missouri Art and Craft Guild members are pleased to invite you to participate in the application process for the 16th annual Art in the Park Show and Sale. Art in the Park is one of the few art fairs in the country that was created by artists for artists. It continues in that spirit with thoughtful regard for professional artists who earn their livelihood from their work. Selection by jury is based on quality and originality. This promotes the goal of producing a show of fine art and craft in which each artist feels honored to participate. Art in the Park has cultivated a reputation among artists and patrons alike as being one of the few juried art and craft shows in the region. Patrons look forward to this festival all year to collect the work of their favorite artists, become acquainted with
new ones and get a head start on their holiday shopping. The beauty of Springfield’s historic Sequiota cave and park provides a serene setting where Springfieldians gather to enjoy the colorful fall foliage, hiking and biking trails and, on one weekend of the year, an exhibit of the finest art and craft available in Southwest Missouri.
The Application PDF File explains all the details of the AWARDS, AMENITIES, JURY PROCESS, SCHEDULE, EXHIBIT SPACE, APPLICATION PROCESS, and RULESÂ & REGULATIONS.
